Festival Ready: Hair Routine and Look Tips from Hairstylist Andy Uffels

Whether you're heading to a music festival or another event, you want to look your best. That's why today we're sharing the hair routine and styling tips from our founder Andy Uffels.

Linda (interviewer) Hi, I'm Linda, a fellow hairstylist at The Insiders and part of the co-creation team. This time, I get to interview Andy for the blog.

Hey Andy, thanks for taking the time to chat with us! With festival season around the corner, we're eager to hear your tips and favorite looks. What are your initial thoughts on preparing your hair for a festival?

Andy Uffels: Thank you! Festivals are always a fun time of year, but they can also be challenging for your hair. Whether you're dancing in the sun or standing in the rain, your hair has to endure a lot. The most important thing is to have a routine that protects your hair while keeping it looking great.

Linda: That sounds like a good start. Where should we begin?

Andy: It all starts with the basics: proper care and protection. Before you even think about styling, it's essential to keep your hair well-hydrated and nourished. I recommend using a deep conditioning hair mask at least a week before the festival. This helps to strengthen your hair from within and prepare it for a few days without washing, using styling products, braiding, etc.

Linda: That makes sense. What's the next step in the preparation?

Andy: The next step is protection. Festivals often mean spending a lot of time outdoors, so UV protection is crucial. Use a leave-in spray with UV protection to shield your hair from the sun. We always recommend the My Hero Wonder Spray. This is a multifunctional product and provides maximum protection. It prevents dryness and color fading. If your hair is colored, this is even more important.

Linda: Okay, how about the styling itself? What are your favorite looks for festivals?

Andy: For festivals, I love looks that appear effortless but still stylish. One of my favorites is the boho braid. It's simple, looks delightfully nonchalant and relaxed, and keeps your hair out of your face while you dance. Start with lightly wavy hair, make a loose braid, and gently pull at the strands to give it a messy, voluminous look.

Linda: That sounds lovely! Are there any other looks you recommend?

Andy Uffels: Yep, definitely! Another favorite is the half-up half-down look. It's versatile and works well for both short and long hairstyles. You can put part of your hair up in a bun or braid, and leave the rest down. It's perfect for a day full of dancing and moving around because it still looks good at the end of the day.

Linda: What are your tips for maintaining these looks throughout the day?

Andy: Good products are essential. Use a strong but flexible hairspray to keep your look in place without making it stiff. Dry shampoo is also a lifesaver. It keeps your hair fresh and adds volume if you notice your hair getting flat from all the dancing and sweating. The dry shampoo works wonders, so always take our bestseller, the Hustler Dry Shampoo, with you.

Linda: How important is it to use the right tools?

Andy: The right tools can make a world of difference. Use a good brush that is gentle on your hair and prevents tangles. For braids and intricate styles, a tail comb can be handy to create precise sections. You can easily take it with you to a festival. And don't forget to use a heat protectant product if you're using tools like a curling iron or straightener.

Linda: Do you have any final tips for our readers preparing for the festival season?

Andy: Yes, don't forget to be creative! Festivals are the perfect opportunity to try something new and step out of your comfort zone. Add accessories like chopsticks, hair clips, or colorful scarves. They can transform a simple look into something special. And lastly, hydrate not only your hair but also yourself. Drink plenty of water and use a good moisturizer on your face and body. And, of course, have a lot of fun.

Linda: It's great to interview you. Thanks for all your fantastic tips! We look forward to trying out your festival looks.

Andy: My pleasure! I wish everyone a fantastic festival season with beautiful and creative hair!
